Sky Community 101: Intro to the Sky Community
Hello! I've complied a lot of information from the Sky community that may be helpful to both players new and old! It covers nearly everything a player could ask about rearding both the game and the community.
Currency and collectables
Wax - The little pieces of light you collect in the realms to forge candles
Candles - The main currency of sky, you need them to unlock things on the friend tree, get things from the base constellation
Chevrons - Little arrows on your candle meter that determine how much wax you need for the next candle.
Hearts - You can buy 1 from every spirit and past season quests for 3 candles, You can also get hearts from friends. After you unlock high-five with a friend you can send them a heart for 3 candles once a day and they can send one back. Friends lighting your friend star will also fill a heart meter and you can get a heart from 60 pieces of light!
Winged Light - The shiny child shaped light you’ll find around the realms. You’ll need as much of it as you can get for when you get to the Eye of Eden.
Ascended candles -You can get these from doing red shards or Eden You need to give your winged light to the statues there to save them and they’ll give you ascended candles.
Wing buffs - When there’s a padlock on a spirit’s tree that costs ascended candles you’ll get a wing buff from unlocking it. When you finish Eden you’ll get any wingbuffs you bought when you return home. This is how you get more winged light
Map shrines - Small shrines you'll find in the realms that unlock part of a map when you meditate at them. you can use them to see and constellation spirits or winged light you are missing in that area.
Daily tasks - 4 tasks you can do to get candles each day. During seasons the candle reward is season candles.
Sky Vocabulary
Ancestors - Another name for the spirits, it translates better when talking to international players
Moth - New players are called moths because of their brown capes and their tendency to go straight for any light they see.
Sparrows - What Japanese players call new players because their brown cape resembles their wings and they flap around like birds.
Butterfly - A player that’s a bit experienced, they may have a few capes here and there but they definitely know their way around sky.
Veteran - a sky player that’s been around for a while and is quite experienced. Many people come up with their own criteria to define when someone is considered a vet but we’d say if you’ve been around for a few seasons and you really know your sky stuff you’re a genuine vet!

Chibi - A player that wears the chibi mask as their main style. The chibi mask makes players small and gives them a slightly larger face. Their main goal is being small and cute or they are jsut small for the glitches.

Events in Sky
Seasons - These are longer events in sky that usually add a new area and new spirit to find (although not all seasons do) finishing the season means doing all the related quests and getting everything from the spirits and guide.
Season pass - An Iap that gives you the season pendent and allows you to get season pass only cosmetics and the hearts for the ultimate gifts. Without it you can’t 100% the season but there will still be free cosmetics to get if you don’t have the pass.
Gift passes - when you buy the 3 pack of season passes you get one for yourself and two you can only gift to friends, they show up next to your season hearts during a season and once the season ends if you still have the passes they can be used for next season.
Season candles - you’ll get 5 season candles a day and if you have the pass you get 1 extra. Every season there’s also a double light event that lets you get 1 extra candle. Any Season candles leftover at the end of the season will be converted into normal candles when the season ends.
Season hearts - You get these from the spirits if you have the season pass. In order to buy them you have to finish the spirit tree. These hearts are used to buy the season’s Ultimate gifts.
Ultimate gifts - cosmetics from the guide that right now are not returning after the season (tgc has said this might change but there’s no plans for how to implement the ults returning)
Days of events - Days of events come yearly and usually have some connection to a holiday but not all of them do! Days of events usually last a few weeks and there’s event currency you can get from the event area that’ll let you get the new event cosmetics! Unlike seasons all the items from these events will come back.
Traveling spirits
They are past season spirits that come back every other week to allow players to get the stuff they had during the season for normal candles and hearts.
Leading up to the reveal Ash, one of the concept artists for sky, gives hints on the official server leading up to the reveal. They usually give one hint the day before the reveal and a few more in the hours before the reveal.
The past ts hints are kept track of here: TS Hints
Daily events
There are some things that happen on a schedule in sky, you can check here for those times: Sky Clock
Wax events
Geyser - Every other hour the polluted geyser in sanctuary will shoot out darkness you can burn and get wax from.
Granny - Every other hour the Belonging guide comes back to serve meals at the elevated clearing, you can get wax from burning the balls they serve.
Turtle/Sunset-every other hour Sanctuary island’s atmosphere changes to sunset and a turtle swims out of the water with dark plants growing on their back. You can get wax from burning the plant and collecting shells during sunset.
Environment events
Fairy ring - Every hour a fairy ring will appear in the prairie village near the 3rd bell tower, there’s also an achievement on Playstation to visit this fairy ring
Forest Brook Rainbow - This rainbow shows up every 12 hours near the bonfire in the forest brook
Concert
AURORA concert - The Aurora concert happens every 4 hours to go you need to have a special memory cape that was available during the AURORA season and encore.
Reset
Daily reset - when your candle meter resets at 12 AM Pacific Standard Time.
Eden reset - Happens at the same time daily reset happens but only once a week on Sunday at 12 AM PST.
Here's a timezone converter if you need help figuring out when that is for your timezone: Savvytime
Shards
Shard events were introduced during the season of Shattering, they are parts of the storm in the Eye of Eden that have fallen into the realms. There’s two main types:
Black shards - black shards are less dangerous and only give you wax but give 4 candle cakes worth of wax.
Red shards - Red shards will give you ascended candles when you clear them. You have to burn the plants and then collect fragments of a memory to get the reward. Clearing a red shard will send you to an ancient memory when you interact with the shattering guide. After you have done the shattering quests the memory you end up in will be randomized.
You can find a schedule for the shards here: Sky Shards
Memory capes
capes that will allow players to access a special area in the game, anyone who is holding hands with someone wearing these capes can visit these special areas too.
Founder’s cape - A cape that lets you access the office in the vault of knowledge that’s based off of TGC’s actual office in California.
Nintendo capes - Capes from the Nintendo pack that you can only buy on the Switch. Both the blue and red cape will open up the secret area behind the pipe in the Golden Wasteland social area.
Asteroid cape - A cape based on the little Prince’s coat that came from The Little Prince colab season that lets you visit the asteroid belt called memories of a special friend.
Wings of AURORA - A cape from the Season of AURORA and the encore colab that lets you revisit the nighttime colosseum and see the Concert in the Light again at the scheduled times.
Out of bounds
A popular thing to do in sky is break out of the maps to explore just outside of the intended range using glitches here's a few well known ones
Chibi fall - using the stance from the stealthy survivor and wearing the chibi mask from the Hide 'n' seek pioneer will let you clip out of bounds if you manage to drag your skykid's leg through the floor on a mild incline.
Piggyback Rocket-When you and a friend offer piggyback to each other and then accept it at the same time you'll both get launched up.
Sky Music
Sky has a number of instruments that allow you to play music either with free play or by following sheet music.
Sheet music - a rhythm mini game that shows you what notes to hit to play a song, they vary in difficulty and speed and will automatically adjust your instrument to the right key regardless of where you are.
Daily sheet music challenge - In Harmony hall you can find a sheet music challenge that will give you more wax depending on how well you do in the sheet music. You can get up to 4 candle cakes worth of wax from this.
Playing your own music - Each instrument has a range of 2 scales unless it's a percussion instrument which will only have an octave. Key will change depending on where you are, below you'll find a helpful guide by Clemet to that:
Finding songs to play
The sky community has a lot of resources for sharing and practicing music. Here's a few that will help any aspiring Sky musician:
Sky Music Library - This website has visual guides to sheet music that you can look at and practice
Sky Music Nightly - This is an App that lets you practice music sheets outside of Sky.
sky-music - This is an older version of sky music nightly that has a library of music shared by other users you can download that's compatible with the newer version.
Sky Studio-An App that allows you to practice sheet music and create and save your own. It is compatible with Sky Music Nightly.
Startags
Starprotectors - Official sky merch has a NFC chip with a unique code that you can link to your account by scanning it. After you do so you’ll see an icon over other players if they also have a star protector linked to their account and you’ll see an option to randomly join a stranger who also has a star protector. You can find out more about them here:That Skyshop STAR Feature
Startags - These do the same thing as starprotectors but will also do something in game, you can find out more about them here: That Skyshop STAR gallery
